The logo for Cestería en Manila, La Junta was inspired by the basket weaving pattern crafted from Manila material. This design captures the essence of traditional craftsmanship, community, and cultural preservation, central to the project’s mission of empowering artisans and safeguarding their heritage.

Context
Cestería en Manila, La Junta is a FONDEF project aimed at strengthening the skills and knowledge-sharing among basket weavers who use Manila material. Spearheaded by cultural manager Catalina Camus and designer Alejandra Chaparro in 2019, the project created spaces for dialogue, the exchange of expertise, and skill-building, crucial for the artisans’ community development.
Objective
The goal was to design a logo and develop a website that reflected the traditional Manila basket weaving craft, while also representing the project’s community-driven focus. The logo needed to evoke the artistry and interconnectedness of the weaving pattern, symbolic of both the craft and the artisans’ shared knowledge.
Design Process
The logo’s design draws directly from the Manila weaving pattern, featuring interlaced lines and geometric shapes that mimic the rhythm and precision of basket weaving. The woven pattern represents both the strength of the craft and the bonds within the artisan community, symbolizing the interwoven traditions and collaborations central to their work.



Typography
A clean, understated typeface was chosen to complement the intricate woven elements of the logo, maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity while emphasizing the craft’s precision and beauty.
